Car Care – Use Deionised Water For the Final Rinse
Car Care – Use Deionised Water For the Final Rinse
One of the worst things to contend with when you are washing your car, especially on hot Summer days is water spots. No matter how hard you try it is sometimes almost impossible to stop water spots from appearing as your car dries. If this is a problem you are suffering from every time you wash your car then you will be pleased to know that the cause has been identified. You are using the wrong sort of water!
Hot To Car Care Part
Now before you go off and say that you are fighting a lost cause because there is no way to change your water, there is a solution. You need to change to de-ionised water for the final rinse of your car.
What is De-ionisation?
Ions are simply impurities that exist in any normal water supply and come in the form of dissolved minerals such as calcium and sodium, When the water evaporates the minerals that were once dissolved in the water are left behind to leave unsightly spots on your paintwork. The normal course of action is to dry your car with a soft cloth or paper towel so that the water doesn’t have time to evaporate and leave behind the spots. This is sometimes impractical though, especially on a hot day when the sun will dry parts of your car before you get a chance to get to them.
The de-ionisation process forces the dissolved ions out of the water through ion exchange. This involves exchanging negatively charged ions, called cations for hydrogen and positively charged ions, called anions for hydroxyl. This is done by passing the water through a filter containing resin beads that have a greater affinity for other ions.
When to use it
Normal application is to wash your car with normal water and thoroughly rinse with normal water too to make sure all the soap has been washed away. Then immediately rinse with deionised water. Due to the fact that the filter has a finite life and will only be able to exchange ions for a certain volume of water, it makes sense to only use the deionised water for the final rinse as otherwise you will end up changing filters more regularly than you otherwise need to. However, some people have reported getting a better lather from deionised water and so also use it for washing as well. It’s up to you.
One good tip is to make sure that you concentrate particularly on areas where water tends to accumulate and therefore drip for a period of time after rinsing, such as bumpers and door mirrors.
Another tip is to perhaps avoid washing the car on a high pollen count day as for some reason pollen gets attracted to deionised water.
Once you have thoroughly rinsed the car with deionised water simply leave it to dry. You will notice not only that there are no water spots but also you car has an immediate shine to it as well. If you can’t wait that long, I have heard of people using leaf blowers to dry their cars. Be careful with this though as the last thing you need to be doing to your paintwork is blowing dust and debris onto it which may cause scratches.
One final thing to note. During the final rinse you should notice that the deionised water beads very easily and runs off the surface of the paintwork almost like little ball of mercury. If you see this then you know the filter is working. As the resin beads inside the filter start to approach saturation the beading will start to diminish. That’s when you know to buy a new filter.

Car Care Tips For the Summer
Car Care Tips For the Summer
Summer is almost upon us with Spring giving us a taste of the higher temperatures we can expect during the summer, so while we have a little more time before the full gloriously hot and sunny weather descends upon us here are some hints and tips to get your vehicle in shape for summer too!
Hot To Car Care Part
Wax On and Wax Off
The sun can really damage your paintwork and a major car care tip is to make sure you apply a coat of wax every six weeks though many people either forget or think they are getting wax applications from a car wash.
Applying a coat of wax does not need to be hard effort with buffing machines available for less than and which will take the misery of wax application and buffing the coat up to a great shine.
Refrigerate!
Manufacturers usually recommend running the air conditioner for 10 to 15 minutes each week in order to maintain the system but in practice many drivers simply turn the system off and then wonder why it is not working several months later when the warm weather comes around.
Check for vapor emissions from the vents when you run the air conditioning as this is a sign of low coolant and a refresh of the system is usually to be had very cheaply and will maximize your comfort while minimizing the cost to you.
Beware of the Heat
Car temperatures can climb to 160 degrees when parked in direct sunlight – enough to bake babies, children, pets and your laptop.
Park in the shade whenever possible and use a windshield cover to reflect the rays of the sun. Keeping the vehicle cool is only part of the equation though as the cooler your car is, not only will you have more comfort but you will reduce the rate of evaporation of the gas from the tank which is a direct cost saving to you.
In this light, make sure you ensure the gas cap is on tight and not just turned until you hear the “click” when you fill up – ensuring a tight seal, air tight if possible, will prevent evaporation through the gas cap generally and this is also a direct saving of your dollars.
Oil and Filter
Oil should be changed every 3,000 miles or every 3 months and in accordance with the manufacturer’s warranty and maintenance manual. Performing a simple oil and filter change will not only noticeably improve your car and engine performance but will also save you around 2% on your gas costs from better gas mileage.
Windscreen Wiper Blade and Screen Wash
There is nothing worse than driving down a hot, dusty road when a bug goes “splat” in the middle of the screen and then you put on the wipers and look for a jet of fluid to clean off the offending bug stain – except all you get is a dried set of streaks because there is no screen wash and the blades have seen their best through the winter.
Make sure you change the blades and top up the screen wash but again, follow the directions for summer driving as the concentrations differ between the seasons – in the summer you don’t need anti-freeze in the wash either so hold on that )this will save on corrosion on your paintwork too).

Fall Car Care Reminders for Trouble Free Driving
Fall Car Care Reminders for Trouble Free Driving
The hot summer is transitioning into the cool weather of fall and all the great activities the season brings. Folks have begun to look forward to crimson leaves, football games and the coming holiday season. However, fall doesn’t just mean caramel apples and cornucopias adorning the dining room table, with the change of the season it is a perfect time to begin winterizing your vehicle. Large or small, your car or truck cannot be expected to carry you where you need to go without a few simple checks. Take note of the following fall car care tips and you will be prepared for driving in the fall and winter.
Hot To Car Care Part
Being proactive can save you a lot of time, money, trouble and possibly being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Start on the outside of your car, truck or SUV, and examine your tires. Especially noting the tread, you’re all season tires may have traveled through spring, and summer, but with the arrival of fall and the looming winter season; their traction may have begun to tire out (pun intended). Perform the penny test, if Abe Lincoln’s head on the face of a penny is not covered by the tread; you may want to consider replacing your tires.
Next, check the tire pressure. You can find information concerning recommended pressure per square inch (PSI) in your Owner’s Manual, on the tires or on the inside of the driver door panel. If the pressure is below the standard add more air until you reach the recommended level. Proper tire inflation and tread life are a huge factor in vehicle control and safety. Plus they also are a contributing factor in the fuel economy of your vehicle.
Now check your gas cap. The lower humidity of the fall season can cause the seals in the cap to crack and gas pressure may be affected, which in turn will drastically undercut the performance of your vehicle. Should your cap look worn, get it replaced at auto parts store or the local dealer for your particular vehicle brand. You also want to always close your cap tightly after each fill-up, if you don’t your check engine light may come on.
Next you’ll want to check your windshield and rear view windows (and all your windows for that matter). Look for cracks and chips. Colder weather may cause these to worsen as temperatures drop. Most auto-glass repair services offer resin treatments, rather than replacing the whole glass and a patch will work just fine.
Now check your wipers, if they’re dry and cracked, go ahead and replace them. Visibility is crucial at all times, not just in the winter. If your wipers are worn they will not move the water off your windshield when it rains causing a dangerous driving hazard. Fresh wipers will also aid in cleaning your windshield every time they swipe across the windshield.
Now check under the hood; top off washer, brake, and transmission fluids. Make certain you have the right mix of antifreeze and water in your radiator, this way, even if it is very cold, there’s no chance of the water freezing and causing your major damage. You can get an inexpensive tool at auto parts stores to make sure you antifreeze is protecting your engine. Be sure you refer to your owner’s manual before adding any kind of fluids to make sure that you are using the right ones for your vehicle.
Even if you are not due for an oil change, colder weather can thicken oil viscosity, and do damage to, rather than lubricating, your engine. Your Owner’s Manual again will let you know about which colder weather oil is right for your vehicle.
Look over all the belts and hoses; make certain to really look at their surfaces, underneath, and at their sides. If they are frayed, cracked, of worn, consider replacing them. When you are checking your hoses if they seem spongy to the touch you may need to replace them. Replacing a belt or hose is simple when it is planned, however, were they to tear, break, or rupture while on the road, these simple fixes can become a complicated mess.
It never fails when the first really cold snap hits car batteries die in mass. Be sure to have a test run on the life of your battery, cold weather may have a negative effect on its longevity. Many reputable auto parts dealers will test your battery for free. Also, don’t forget about your local car dealership as many of them will also test your battery for proper performance.
Routine maintenance on your vehicle will prolong the life of your vehicle, so whether this is your car or truck’s first fall or its nineteenth, it won’t hurt to check out some of these areas. Doing so will keep your car running at its tip top performance level, and give you the peace of mind to enjoy your fall travels.

Car Tires: How To Cake Care Of Them
Car Tires: How To Cake Care Of Them
Four car tires are the only connection that your car has with the road. They keep your car into contact with the road at all times. For this reason it is important that you take proper care of them and ensure that they are properly inflated for you to significantly gain from good gas mileage and the handling of brakes and the car.
Hot To Car Care Part
Brakes are the most important part of a car and the tires help you in managing them and saving your life every time you roll out of the driveway. Neglect is the one thing that ruins good car tires. Some neglectful acts done by most drivers include driving on under inflated tires which end up causing unnecessary and very quick deterioration. They tend to cause more wearing on the outside and the center of the tire.
This is usually a pity since in most cases all that is needed to keep them inflated is frequent tire inspection at least once a month and air. Both of these services are essentially free in most gas stations. Over inflated tires on the other hand also cause more damage similar to that of under inflated ones. They tend to show off more tear in the center than on the outside when compared to those that are under inflated.
It is therefore very important to constantly check their pressure using a tire gauge. This should be done when they are cold rather than the hot since hot air tends to assume more pressure. Tires that are considered to be cold are those that have not run for more than three hours.
You should also ensure that the tire pressure gauge is accurate. In some service stations, the gauges tend to be off by several pounds. When you use such a gauge you may end up putting little pressure on them and this causes the edges on the outside to wear out faster. While on the other hand while using such a gauge you may end up putting too much pressure, they then wear out in the middle.
Having your own tire gauge can help you avoid some of these mistakes and save you a lot of money in the future. It may be costly initially but worth every cent in the long run. The manual can help you identify the right amount of pressure for your car; refer to it when you are uncertain.
As you check the pressure, do not forget to check the spare tire. Get into the habit of examining them periodically, at least once a month. This habit can help you identify repairs that may eventually lead to more and create a hazard.
Built in wear indicators can also be a good indicator and help you determine the best time to replace them. When the tread indicators are evident in the ribs of a tire, replace it. You need to take care of your car tires from the very beginning as a car is one of the major investments you need to protect it and take care of it at all costs.

When making a major move within the country or internationally, there are lots of components to think of. Selling your home, finding a new home, packing all your belongings and moving your furniture are all part of any move. Last, but definitely not least, is your vehicle. No one wants to put extra miles on any car, especially high end luxury vehicles. So how do you transport your precious gem?
Hot To Car Care Part
Choosing a vehicle transport company that specializes in hauling luxury or exotic vehicles are the best bet. Get your vehicle the ultimate care with truck drivers who specialize in handling high end vehicles. With hydraulic lifts and ramps, ultra low vehicles are safely loaded and unloaded from the haulers.
It is recommended that enclosed haulers are used for these types of vehicles to protect against the elements that can encountered on the road in open carriers, such as dust, wind, rain, sleet, snow and bugs. Getting your vehicle in the same condition as you left it is important and those who specialize in protecting and using a soft touch and soft tie downs can ensure a perfect delivery.
How about direct service? With a reserved truck for your single vehicle and two man team, your vehicle is delivered straight to your door. Most owners of high end vehicles request this service to ensure that their vehicle is given the personal attention and handled with the utmost care. While most enclosed carriers fit up to 6 to 10 vehicles, this single car carrier ensures that your car is the only vehicle to take care of. A delivery with the HOT SHOT is for those who need their vehicle quickly with no delays. A move of one car in one truck is much more succinct and efficient to load, deliver and unload.
Luxury and exotic vehicles, such as the Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Bugatti, Maserti, Rolls Royce, Lotus and Ferrari, require special care. Owners of these vehicles pay extra attention to every detail and keep these cars in premium condition. Resale value is high and because of that, no owner of a luxury vehicle wants even the slightest knick in their paint, ripple in their tires or white wall, scratch on their rims, etc. The car MUST arrive in mint condition, the way it was picked up. A transport company like High End Transport can ensure that delivery meets all expectations.

Ladies Car Care Clinic – Common Wear Items on Your Car and What to Watch Out For
Ladies Car Care Clinic – Common Wear Items on Your Car and What to Watch Out For
Here is a list of the items that we see and look for every day at our shop. These things are normal wear parts, and almost every vehicle will need Replacement Parts need Replacement Parts. Fact is, no matter what, you should always ask to see the old parts. And if you aren’t sure the part is bad or if it’s even your part, ask to take it with you. That way you have the opportunity to have it inspected. You should notice a visible looseness in the wheels when these components are worn. Looseness may also be accompanied by a ‘rattle’ clunk or metal on metal sound over bumps. Noise is a very good indicator that these components are worn out.
Hot To Car Care Part
Cooling System Components:
1. Radiator
2. Water pump
3. Thermostat
4. Hoses and Belts
5. Heater Core
Except for the thermostat, most of these components will last well over 100,000 miles, given proper maintenance. If your vehicle is not providing good heat in the winter, chances are your thermostat needs changing. This is normal at around 50,000 miles. If you are not seeing a green or pink watery fluid under your car and someone tells you one of these components needs Replacement Parts on a regular basis. These are only replaced on a vehicle that has a serious problem, and not part of everyday wear items. If you’re told that you have a bad head gasket, ask to see the test results. There are several good tests that will prove or disprove a head gasket leak diagnosis. If you are still not convinced, get a 2nd opinion. This is one of the most common miss-diagnosed problems in our industry.
Brake System Components:
1. Brake Pads
2. Brake Rotors
3. Calipers
4. Brake Hoses
5. Brake Shoes
6. Brake Drum Hardware
7. Brake Drums
8. Master Cylinder
9. Brake Lines
10. ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
11. ABS Pump Motor
12. Wheel Bearings
Of all these components, the most common wear items are in the brake category. Brakes are exposed to the road conditions (Salt, water, grime) and extreme temperatures, hot and cold. Brakes can easily get to over 400 degrees when used to stop a fully loaded vehicle. ‘Riding’ the brake or ‘panic’ stopping are the best ways to insure brake problems and added vehicle expense.
What to watch out for:
Be on the lookout for anyone that tells you your brakes are ‘shot’, even if they feel soft to you, this does not mean they need replacement. Often times a simple cleaning and adjustment of the brakes will restore proper operation. If your brakes are worn they still should stop the vehicle efficiently. If you are experiencing long stops then most likely there is something else wrong. The most common brake repair of all is replacement of the brake pads, and rotors. If someone tries to tell you that your calipers should be replaced too, ask them to show you why. And again, if you are not convinced they need replacing, get a second opinion. This is the ‘red’ flag that and inexperienced technician is working on your vehicle. Unless your vehicle has well over 100,000 miles on it, it’s not likely that your calipers need replacement.
Next time we’ll talk about how to change your tire the easy way. Thanks for reading.
